'Songs of Supplication' by Malathi Moily opens eyes to beauty of divinity, nature and love

New Delhi, Mar. 21 (ANI): Eminent literateur Professor Namwar Singh, who released 'Songs of Supplication' written by Malathi V. Moily at a function here, complimented the award-winning poet for her work.

He said the poems, originally written in Kannada, now translated into English, should be available in Hindi too. Speaking after releasing the book, he rendered one of the poems in Hindi.

Prominent poet, playwright and Jnanpith laureate Chandrashekhara Kambara, who presided over the function held at the Constitution Club of India here yesterday, also lauded the poet for this remarkable feat.

The book, which has been launched by Rupa Publications India, has been translated into English by Geetha Sreenivasan and Hamsa Moily.

In 'Songs of Supplication', Malathi V. Moily opens our eyes to the beauty of divinity, nature and love. Each poem is imbued with startling poignancy and devotion it is a humble prayer to the gods cherished by the poet and a contemplation of the world around her.

Beautifully illustrated and produced, 'Songs of Supplication' is an evocative and sublime ode to the power both within and outside, from a remarkably perceptive individual.

Malathi Moily had also collaborated with her husband Dr. M. Veerappa Moily in writing the epic poem of Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam. Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, a multifaceted personality who was the former Chief Minister of Karnataka and is presently Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas was present on the occasion. The publication Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam won the prestigious 'Moortidevi Award' in 2007.

Malathi V. Moily, who is a great pillar of artistic and creative strength, is also an acclaimed short-story writer in her mother tongue Kannada.

Her poems have been sung by the legendary Kannada film actor Dr. Rajkumar, and acclaimed singers like P.B. Srinivas, Vani Jayaram, S. Janaki and Sangeetha Katti.

Cassettes of her Kannada poetry recitals are popular and acclaimed. (ANI)
