Mumbai FC, Shillong Lajong, Sesa Goa win

Jamshedpur, March 14 (IANS) Mumbai FC rode on a hat-trick by Cletus Paul to beat ONGC 3-1 in the first match of the day played at Gopal Maidan in the U-20 I-League here Thursday.

Mumbai FC took the lead in the 43rd minute and extended the lead with a fine strike on the 54th min. ONGC reduced the margin through Prudhuvi K. (58th) but that was not enough. Paul completed his hat-trick by adding another goal to his tally (89th).

In the second match played at the J.R.D. Tata Sports Complex, Mohun Bagan was handed a shock defeat by Shillong Lajong. The mariners went down 1-3.

Prohlad Roy scored in the 25th minute giving the lead to the green and maroon brigade. The joy was cut short just before the half time through a 44th minute equaliser by Zoding Liana.

The second half witnessed a lacklustre game by the Kolkata team which saw Shillong Lajong taking advantage and scoring two goals to seal victory. For Lajong, Lalram Munna scored twice (50th, 64th). With the loss Mohun Bagan finished second in their group.

The third game saw an exciting battle, where Sesa Goa emerged winners against Churchill Brothers. The battle changed momentum on a regular basis but at the end Sesa held on and emerged winners 4-2.

Sesa took the lead in the 10th minute through Olvin Cardozo which was cut by a strike by Romario Fernandes (18th) of Churchill Brothers. Sesa again took the lead (26th) with the help of again by Olvin. The score read 2-1 at the lemon break in favour of Sesa Goa.

The second half saw both the teams battling hard for ball possession but neither converting their chances. Churchill was caught napping twice in the latter part of the second half when Stephen Colaco scored twice (80th, 83rd) taking the scoreline to 4-1.

Churchill fought hard to reduce the margin in the 90th minute through a close range strike from their defender Satish Singh. Sesa Goa topped their group by virtue of the victory.

The final match of the day between Tata Football Academy (TFA) and Dempo witnessed some aggressive football from both the sides but eventually Tata Football Academy emerged victorious 2-0.

Both the teams fought hard on the pitch at Gopal Maidan but an early strike from Manash Sarkar gave the lead to TFA. They held on to the lead in the first half.

The second half saw the battle continuing but Dempo couldn't find the TFA net. The match was eventually put beyond Dempo's reach when Udanta Singh scored in the 86th minute. With the victory, TFA finished second in their group behind East Bengal.
