Dehradun, March 8, (ANI): Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi arrived here on Friday to take stock of the party's affairs in Uttarakhand.

Gandhi, who arrived here amid tight security, is also expected to discuss the Congress Party's strategy for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Congress leader Satpal Maharaj said that Rahul Gandhi's visit would provide a boost to the party.

"Rahul Gandhi's visit would energise the party and he is personally attached to Dehradun. He is coming to know about the feelings of the party workers. We welcome him from the core of our hearts. He will provide strength and energy to the party. We will all work together and follow his instructions and will strengthen the party. We will prepare for the upcoming 2014 elections to achieve victory," he said.

Maharaj further said that he would formulate a plan to prepare the party for the forthcoming civic body polls in the state.

Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna's son, Saket Bahuguna, said that the party workers are eager to meet Rahul Gandhi.

"There is a lot of excitement within the Congress Party and especially the youth. He is coming for the first time after becoming the Vice-President. All the Congress workers are eager to hear him. He will direct us for the 2014 elections and will formulate a plan for the party and the party will work accordingly. This is a very good initiative as the party workers are getting an opportunity to interact with Rahul Gandhi," said Bahuguna.
