Karnataka,Business/Economy, Thu, 07 Mar 2013 IANS

Bangalore, March 7 (IANS) As second largest private bank in the country, HDFC Bank plans to foray into interior regions of Karnataka with more branches in semi-urban and rural areas across the state, a senior official said Thursday.

"With a network of 150 branches, we are one of the fastest growing private sector banks in the state, with the latest branch unveiled at Sullia in the coastal Dakshina Kannada district," bank's southern head Dhiraj Relli told reporters here.

The new branch at Sullia will offer customers a range of services from savings account, fixed deposits, current account, mutual funds, insurance, two-wheeler and auto loans to direct access banking channels such as ATM, phone-banking, net-banking and international credit and debit cards.

"As one of the fastest growing private sector banks, we are committed to bringing world class banking services to our customers, be it in metros, small towns or rural areas, with a view to bringing in about 10 million families into the banking fold in the coming years," Relli said.

In line with its vision to make banking accessible to more people and facilitate inclusive growth, the bank will focus on opening more branches in the rural parts of the state in the ensuing fiscal year (2013-14).

"With 75 percent presence outside nine metros, we have a strong branch network in semi-urban and rural areas across the state, including 1,069 ATMs (automatic teller machines), with 874 across Bangalore," Relli added.

Promoted in 1995 by the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), the bank provides a range of financial products and services to its 26 million customers across the country using multiple distribution channels, including a pan-India network of branches, ATMs, phone banking, net banking and mobile banking.

The bank has also emerged as a leading player in retail banking, wholesale banking, and treasury operations as its three principal business segments.

As of December 2012, the bank had a distribution network of 2,776 branches and 10,490 ATMs in 1,568 cities across the country.
