Sydney, Feb. 27 (ANI): A physicist from Sydney proposed to his partner of seven years with a physics paper and not a ring.
Brendan McMonigal paper, 'Two Body Interactions: A Longitudinal Study,' is filled with science geek speak and tracks their relationship, including a graph ("happiness over time") and the all important question, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Fellow physics major Christie Nelan - who said yes to the proposal - published a link to a digital copy of the proposal on social news site Reddit this week, where it went viral and was viewed over 1.7 million times with tens of thousands of Facebook shares and dozens of news articles.
While McMonigal actually proposed on March 23 last year (their seventh anniversary), Nelan decided to publish it online this week ahead of their wedding (March 23 this year).
McMonigal had lured Nelan to the spot where they had met at the University of Sydney, saying that he needed to show her a paper he was having trouble understanding but had left it at the university.
He said that he subtly got down on his knee to get the paper from his bag and hand it to her, then stood up to wait for her reaction.
McMonigal said that Nelan hadn't noticed what was happening at all, but as a typical physics grad, she read the abstract and then skipped straight to the conclusion and quickly cottoned on.
Nelan added that she had a feeling that McMonigal was about to propose but was still "blown away." (ANI)
