'Anti-racist' campaigner Paul Elliot calls fellow black soccer player 'n*****'

London , Mon, 18 Feb 2013 ANI

London, Feb 18 (ANI): Former English footballer Paul Elliot had reportedly racially abused another former player Richard Rufus, who is black, calling him a 'n*****'.

The former Chelsea star, who is incidentally a member of the anti-racism 'Kick It Out' campaign, had made the slur in a text argument to Rufus, where he wrote 'Ur a stupid man n*****... You dog. Ur history my friend', the Sun reports.

However, Elliot had insisted that the term was inoffensive because the conversation took place between two black men, the report added.

The racial row came as an embarrassment to chairman of the Football Association, David Bernstein, who had recently praised Elliott for his work at the 'Kick It Out' campaign, saying that it was an example for all.

After injury cut short Elliott's career in 1992, he became a TV and radio pundit, the paper added.

Elliot has been a trustee of Kick It Out since 1996 and is tipped to become next chairman. (ANI)
