Bolivia seeks Rajasthan's expertise for exploiting its natural resources

Jaipur, Feb 2 (IANS) Natural resources rich South American country Bolivia Saturday sought assistance from the Rajasthan government for technical know how in various sectors, including stones, gems and jewellery.

Bolivian Ambassador to India Jorge Cardenas Robles who visited the seventh edition of India Stonemart at the Export Promotion Industrial Park here said his country was keen for support from government of Rajasthan for capacity building of its own industry.

The ambassador also met Sunil Arora, the state's additional chief secretary (industries) and chairman of Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) on the sidelines of the exhibition.

"We are a young country with a lot of natural resources, particularly in stones. It's a challenge for us to extract them for the benefit of our people and we are seeking cooperation from Rajasthan on this," Robles said.

On its part, the Rajasthan government said that support can be provided to the Bolivian stone industry through the centre for development of stones.

According to the ambassador, his country was also keen on learning from Rajasthan's experience in renewable energy sector like wind and solar power generation.

The state government has invited the ambassador to visit the western area of the state, where state-of-the-art infrastructure in wind and solar power is being set up.

In another related development, the Indo-Brazil Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that companies from India, particularly from Rajasthan, can form solid partnerships with Brazilian firms in the area of stone industries.

Recently, the Brazilian government identified the city of Esperito Santos, which will be used as a zone for promoting stone industries from India.

"It (Esperito Santos zone) can be a good base for setting up joint venture (JV)companies," Sanjiv Kumar Gupta, president, Indo-Brazil Chamber of Commerce & Industry said on the sidelines of exhibition.
