Vishwaroopam row: Kamal Haasan, Muslim groups settle dispute

Chennai, Feb. 2 (ANI): The trilateral talks between the Tamil Nadu Government, Kamal Hassan and Muslim groups held here on Saturday, broke the impasse over the screening of film 'Vishwaroopam' in the state, as the veteran actor-director has agreed to edit some scenes and sound clips, that the Muslim groups have found objectionable.

At the end of the six-hour long meeting, representatives of various Muslim groups and Hassan signed an agreement to break the deadlock situation.

Talking to the reporters after the meeting, Hassan thanked Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and state government to come forward and facilitate the meeting to reach to a consensus.

"I would like to thank the Chief Minister and the state Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu for facilitating the meeting. We discussed many scenes with our Muslim brothers and finally the both parties have agreed to delete some sound clips from the movie," said Hassan.

"We will withdraw our writ petition and hope that the court will lift the ban soon. The release date of the movie will be announced very shortly," he added.

"It was a peaceful talk with the filmmakers and a written agreement has been signed between us. They have agreed to remove all the objectionable scenes. A total of seven scenes would removed from the movie and the cases we have filed against the movie will be withdrawn shortly," said Mohammad Yusuf, secretary, Tamil Nadu Tauheed Jamaat.

The mega-budget film was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), ran into trouble, when some Muslim groups blamed that the film has portrayed Muslims in bad light.

Following the massive protests from these groups, the Tamil Nadu Government has a ban and latter the Madras High Court upheld the decision for further two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the movie with name 'Vishwaroop' has been released and receiving good response from the audience.

The Tamil version pf the movie was to be released on January 25. (ANI)
