New Delhi, Feb. 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday declared former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje as the new president of the party's Rajasthan unit.
Talking to reporters about the decision, BJP national president Rajnath Singh said that Raje will be the new president of the BJP's Rajasthan unit and she will lead the party in the upcoming state assembly polls.
"Vasundhara Raje will head BJP Rajasthan unit and Gulab Chand Kataria will be Leader of Opposition in assembly. I have full confidence that the party will once again emerge victorious under her leadership," said Singh.
Senior BJP leaders from Rajasthan, including Vasundhara Raje, Gulab Chand Kataria, Ghanshyam Tiwari and Arun Chaturvedi are in the national captal since three days to reach a consensus on a suitable name for the state BJP president.
Raje and Kataria, both leaders have accepted the party decision and said that they will go ahead with responsibilities given by the party.
According to some media reports, BJP top leadership had agreed on Raje's name during yesterday's core group meeting.
Raje was the chief minister of Rajasthan from 2003 to 2008, but the BJP Government was voted out in the previous state elections, and subsequently she was asked to step down as the leader of the opposition in the state assembly.
Assembly elections in Rajasthan are due in December this year. (ANI)
