Chennai, Jan 21 (IANS) Continuing its fight against Karnataka for Cauvery river water in the apex court, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Monday said she has ordered officials to file a case against the neighbouring state, claiming damages for losses suffered due to non-supply of water.

In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa said: "Taking into account the adamant attitude of Karnataka government in not releasing Cauvery river water as per the orders of the Cauvery Dispute's Tribunal and the Cauvery Monitoring Committee registering that Karnataka has not released water to Tamil Nadu's share, I have ordered filing of a civil suit for damages in the Supreme Court."

Listing out the steps taken by her government in protecting the interests of the farming community to get its due share of Cauvery water, Jayalalithaa said the paddy crop in the state has been affected as Karnataka has not released water from its four reservoirs.
