Cape Town, Jan 2(ANI): Vernon Philander bowled one of the best new ball spells in recent times, snaring five wickets for just seven runs, to help South Africa bulldoze New Zealand for just 45 runs in the first innings of the Cape Town Test on day one.
Morne Morkel picked up three wickets to add to New Zealand's woes, while Dale Steyn became the third fastest bowler to pick up 300 Test wickets when he dismissed Doug Bracewell for two.
New Zealand reached a new low when they were bowled out for 45, 34 runs less than their previous lowest total in against South Africa in Tests.
Kane Williamson was the top-scorer for the Kiwis with a 19-ball 13.
Earlier, captain Brendon McCullum had won the toss and decided to bat, but the decision terribly backed as whole Black Caps team was bundled out inside 20 overs. (ANI)
