Human Resource and Development Minister Kappil Sibbal has lashing out BJP for stalling the proceedings of parliament and blamed party for destroying the thesis of democracy for securing its own future in the forthcoming elections in 2014. He was addressing a program of the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.

On the occasion, Sibbal said, "Lots of bills are still pending in parliament. But they couldn't be discussed because the opposition is stalling the proceedings of parliament. They are not allowing any debate on the floor of the house."

Sibal accused the BJP of violating the basic rules of democracy by denying the majority of the UPA in parliament.

"They are trying to destroy the basic thesis of democracy only to serve its own vested interests of returning to power after 2014 general elections. But I want to say that the interests of the country, interests of India is much bigger than that of any particular party's political ambitions," he added.

It is noted that The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been demanding Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation over the CAG report that spoke of presumptive loss of $37 billion in coal blocks allocations, when he also held the charge of the coal ministry.

The entire monsoon session of parliament was stalled by frequent disruptions of the BJP after it demanded the resignation of the prime minister, which the Congress-led UPA refused to concede.
