Mulayam eyes on 2014 Lok Sabha election; slams Congress and BJP equally

Underscoring his national political ambitions prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav Wednesday launched a frontal attack on the Congress, saying the ruling party's reputation has diminished due to scams.

"It is high time for his party to take charge," said Mulayam Singh while addressing the Samajwadi Party's two-day national executive here.

Alleging to congress party, Yadav said that the ruling Congress Party is at the moment battling with corruption and has lost the trust of the common man of this country.

"At the centre, there are so many scams. One minister has given coal blocks to his relatives. The day another man became coal minister, he gave coal to relatives. The reputation of the Congress has suffered," said Yadav.

Mulayam not only targeted congress party but also took on Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) as he said, "The BJP also cannot progress any more. So who will take charge? The Samajwadi Party has that responsibility," he added.

Expressing his desire to spread the influence of Samajwadi Party, Mulayam said, 'The Samajwadi Party should not confine itself to Uttar Pradesh, but spread across India.’

Yadav also highlighted the stupendous performance of the Samajwadi Party in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

"No political party believed that the Samajwadi Party would be able to form a government on its own in Uttar Pradesh. We got a clear majority. I would appeal all my leaders to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto," said Yadav.

"The Samajwadi Party will do exceptionally well in the 2104 polls to ensure that no government is formed in New Delhi without its support," he added, while expressing hope that his political outfit would receive the same kind of support as received in Uttar Pradesh in other parts of the country.

It may be recalled here that the Samajwadi Party routed all its rivals in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, clinching 224 of 403 seats in the state assembly.

The Samajwadi Party chief had earlier on Tuesday said that his Samajwadi Party was fulfilling the role the opposition by questioning the policies of the UPA Government, which he said had no direction.

Yadav said the country was facing many challenges due to wrong policies of the government.

"Our country is facing many challenges. The challenges are due to wrong policies of the people, who are running the government. The country has not achieved much due to lack of clear policies. It is also not known where they want to take the country," he told mediapersons in Kolkata.

Yadav said nobody could have dreamt of so many scams and such a high-level of corruption in the government.

"Nobody would have dreamt of so many scams and such a high-level of corruption. Who are behind it? Nobody knows how deep coal scam runs. The newspapers are publishing stories about it on a daily basis. In given circumstances, there are major challenges before us and the country," he added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and other senior Samajwadi Party leaders are also attending the meeting, which is expected to give a final shape to the party's political agenda.

The meeting, which coincides with the Akhilesh Yadav Government completing six months in power, will also have an agenda to build a proper organisational structure of the Samajwadi Party outside Uttar Pradesh before the Lok Sabha polls.
