Jagdish Shetter new CM of Karnataka, Gowda resigns

Ultimately Jagdish Shetter declared as the new chief minister of Karnataka by BJP and replaced present chief minister D.V. Sadanand Gowda. BJP president Nitin Gadkari announced his appointment after resignation from the Gowda and thus the present turmoil in south Indian state came to a halt.

Gadkari said that the appointment of Shetter as the new chief minister of Karnataka has been taken keeping in mind the future of state.

Jagadish Shettar, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) third chief minister in four years in Karnataka, has risen from the ranks of the RSS and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He hails from north Karnataka and belongs to the politically powerful Lingayat community.

Shettar is a graduate in commerce and also a law graduate is a is a four time assembly member and comes from a family with strong ties to the BJP and its earlier avatar, the Jan Sangh.

He was born on Dec 17, 1955, in Kerur village in Bagalokot district.

Shettar was first elected to the assembly in 1994 from the Hubli rural constituency. He has retained the seat since then.

Shettar will have a very short term now as the assembly's term ends in May next year. If the polls are advanced to December, as is widely speculated, Shettar may have time just to settle down in the chair before seeking another mandate.

It is noted that Gowda, who came to New Delhi Saturday evening amid turmoil in the Karnataka BJP, met party leaders L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Ananth Kumar at Advani's residence.

Gadkari announced that Sadanand Gowda has done his excellent work in his short and there are no complaints of corruption or any other complaints against him. In fact he handed his resignation for the benefit of the party and it has been accepted, he added.

He said that party leaders Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh will go to Bangalore and to discuss with the BJP leadership there.
