Bhartiya Janata Party has said that appointment of Home Minister P. Chidambaram as the head of empowered group of ministers on telecom is nothing but a cruel joke. Party has demanded to make him a co-accused in the 2 G spectrum allotment case.
Senior BJP leader and spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad said that Chidamaram had, along with former telecom minister A. Raja, taken the decision on 2G spectrum allocation and hence there have been demands that he should be questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Government had set aside constitutional propriety, parliamentary accountability and political integrity by deciding to make Chidambaram head of the empowered group of ministers, he added.
Party leader alleged that Chidambaram's stated appointment, which has not yet been denied by the government, went against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's claim of maintaining a high level of integrity.
It is noted that BJP demanded earlier to make Chidambaram a co-accused in the 2G-spectrum allotment case.
