Airtel Delhi half marathon to be held on September 30 this year

More than 30,000 people are expected to take part in the eighth Airtel Delhi half marathon to be held on September 30, 2012. The event will start from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of the capital.

The registration for participating in the half marathon has begun and will continue up to 31st August. Interested candidates can register for Rs 800 to participate in the half marathon. However, registration to participate in Great Delhi Run will cost Rs 500 and Rs 200 for the Senior Citizens' Run and the Wheelchair event.

This year's theme for the marathon will be 'Make Friends With Delhi'. Delhi half marathon will cover a distance of 21 Kms while the Great Delhi run, senior citizens' and wheelchair events will be 7 km and 4.3 kms long respectively, said the organizers in a press conference on Thursday.

During the occasion Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu who was the face the event was present and appealed women to participate in a large number in the event. She will be also promoting ‘Bipasha Women's Brigade' through the Marathon with an objective to encourage consciousness among women for health and fitness.

It's one of the world's most prestigious and famous half marathon race and has also got the recognition from IAAF as a "gold label" event and certified by the Association of International Marathons and Road Races, is taking place from last eighth year, and for the fifth time as the Delhi Half Marathon.

The prize money of $210,000 on offer helps the event maintain its status as the world's richest half marathon and is expected to be attended by 40 of the world's top 100 male and female long distance athletes, the organisers said.

The male and female Indian winners of the event will get Rs 2.5 lakh each.
