Cabinet approves Kochi Metro Rail Project

The union cabinet Wednesday approved to an ambition Metro Rail Project in Kochi city of Kerala that would approximately cost to Rs.5,181.79-crore.

The Union Cabinet in the leadership of Home Minister P Chidambaram today gave its nod to begin Kochi Metro Rail Project, the first ever Metro Rail Project in Kerala, scheduled to complete in four years.

The Metro network will cover 25 k.m. and will have 23 stations, informed Chidambaram.

The total cost of this project is estimated Rs.5,181.79-crore in which Central government will bear Rs.1002.23-crore, State government Rs.1772.23-crore and Rs.237.33-crore will be collected from state tax while government will have to borrow Rs.2,170-crore from external means.

"It will be fully elevated and run from Alwaye to Petta on standard gauge," said Chidambaram.
