Congress blames BJP for degradation of primary education in schools

Congress leader of Opposition in the Standing Committee South Delhi Municipal Council (SDMC) Farhad Suri has said that erstwhile MCD has been spending more than one fourth of its revenue on primary education every year but still general public has not been inclined to send their children to M.C. Schools.

He has said that during meeting of Standing Committee that the Education Deptt. itself is responsible for the degradation of education in MC primary schools. We boast about English Medium schools and Sarvodya Vidyalayas but it is a bare truth that after 50 years of MCD's coming into being, we are not able to provide proper drinking water, electricity and toilets in primary schools.

There is need to improve the quality of education in MC primary schools as well as providing general facilities. Apart from education, the schools are lacking other facilities like teacher of dance, music etc. Budget provision for appointment of Special Teachers was made for physically and mentally challenged students, but the same had not been utilized.

There is acute shortage of clerical staff in the Zonal Education Offices. Due to this, teachers are forced to visit the Zonal Offices for preparation of their salary and arrear bills etc. frequently.

He said that the 'Sharda' scheme was launched under Plan Head and necessary funds used to be released by the Delhi Govt. I want to know how much amount the Delhi Govt. granted during last 5 years under different schemes and the details of amount spent on various schemes.
