BJP congratulates Mukherjee, to probe Karnataka cross-voting

Main opposition party Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has congratulated Pranab Mukherjee for the victory in the presidential polls saying that he will enhance the glory of Rashtrapati Bhavan. However party has made it clear that it will look into the matter of cross-voting in Karnataka were Sangama got less vote than Mukherjee.

BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "We congratulate him. Pranab Mukherjee is a respected person, he will enhance the glory of Rashtrapati Bhavan."

However he said that it would be wrong to see the results in context of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. "It should not be connected to the 2014 Lok Sabha election. The president poll in on party lines, while the Lok Sabha poll depends on the people," he added.

Asked about the cross voting in Karnataka, he said," We will look in the issue."

United Progressive Alliance candidate Mukherjee obtained more votes than rival P.A. Sangma, backed by the BJP and other opposition parties, from the BJP-ruled state.
