Those living on the seaside have a reason to cheer. According to a British study living near the sea could help us in leading a healthy life. The study found individuals living near the coast tend to be healthier in comparison to those who set up home further inland.

During their study the researchers analyzed data from the 2001 census, and compared how healthy respondents were as they were living near the sea.

Researchers from the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, part of the Peninsula College of Medicine at the University of Exeter found that there is a correlation between health and proximity to the sea. And closer we live to the sea our chances of good health are better.

The team of researchers also reached at the conclusion that the link between living near the coast and good health was strongest in the economically disadvantaged communities.

The researchers also considered the way that age, sex and a range of social and economic factors, like education and income changes across the country.

The findings of the study also suggest that, on average, populations living near the sea had a good health as compared to those living inland.

Ben Wheeler who led the study said: "We know that people usually have a good time when they go to the beach, but there is strikingly little evidence of how spending time at the coast can affect health and well-being."
