"Walkathon for Population Stabilisation" on World Population Day 2012 in Delhi

World Population day is observed across the world on July 11 every year with an objective to raise the issue of significant growth of population across the globe.

Indian capital city Delhi also observed the World population day 2012 at India Gate by gathering in a large number.

A walkathon was organized during the occasion in which large number of people of all age groups participated. The walkathon was organized from India Gate to Vijay Chauk.

During the occasion, Shri Naveen Jindal, Member of Parliament, Syeda Hameed, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India, Sunita Godara, former Indian marathon runner were also present. Though, Union Health Minister Gulam nabi Azad and Minister of State for Health and family Shri Sudip Bandyopadhyay were also scheduled to come at the venue, but could not attend the function due to some reasons.

The "Walkathon for Population Stabilisation" was organized by Jansankhsya Sthirata Kosh during the occasion. The walkathon was organized for different categories and the winners were facilitated with certificates and medals later.

The winner for Mens category was Jeetendra from Shyamlal College. In womens category Seema from Najafgarh topped the race. In the girls and kids category Bharti and Neetu were the winners respectively.

The program was also followed by the yoga performance of famous yoga practitioner Aditi Nigam who has made India proud in various national and international yoga tournaments.
