PHO gave Karamveer Award to late Sunil Dutt

The Peoples Health Organisation (PHO) gave Karamveer Award to the legend actor, parliamentarian and social worker late Sunil Dutt for his special efforts to the welfare of society. His daughter M.P. Ms Priya Dutt received the award in a colorful functions organized at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Mumbai.

M.P. Priya Dutt said on the occasion that her father Sunil Dutt was associated with Peoples Health Organization (PHO) for very long time and this relationship was not a gimmick but it was a very emotional cause to associates. He taught us to respect the people affected with HIV with the same respect and dignity, as others deserve.

Appreciating the efforts of the members of PHO, Dutt said,"I appreciate all the members of this group; they have contributed a lot to a cause that was a serious issue. A lot need to be done in this field as people need to be made aware about the difference between HIV and AIDS."

On the occasion, Secretary of PHO, Dr. Ishwar S Gilada said that Mr. Sunil Dutt never accepted any award or even flowers from PHO in his life, saying he was himself a PHO worker. He was nurtured PHO and was a father figure for the organization. We are all pleased that Priya has come forward to help PHO carry on the torch after his demise.

On the occasion a concert"Ye Jeevan Hai" revealed out which is yet another innovation of PHO to de-stigmatize HIV and making people HIV-friendly by bringing together the HIV infected and affected, friends, well wishers, doctors, parma, activists and media on one platform.

The other award winners are Prof. KC Mohanty, being first TB-Chest Physician in HIV care; Dr. Rajiv Jerajani, Psychiatrist; Mr. Arun Khanna, COO, Emcure Pharma for bringing out affordable and widest range of antiretrovirals; Actress Kunickaa Lall; Paediatrician Dr. R.H Merchant: Adv. Ajay Panicker; Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Ravi Pendkar; Mr Manoj Raghuvanshi, Delhi (Electronic Media) and Neuro Surgeon Dr Keki Turel.

It is noted that the Peoples Health Organization (India) is India's first NGO, which works in the field of prevention, control and management of HIV. It has completed 30 years of its public service (diagnostic health camp at Dharawi on 4th June 1982), 27 years of HIV awareness (Sept.1985) and 25 years of starting HIV care (May 1987).
