Chandolia terms CM's statement politically motivated

New Delhi, Tue, 05 Jun 2012 NI Wire

Chairman Standing Committee, NDMC Yogendra Chandolia today declared the statement of Chief Minister of Delhi politically motivated in which she has declared MCD as biggest burden on the Government.

Mr. Yogendra Chandolia rejected the allegation of Delhi Govt. that Rs. 258 crore are laying unspent by erstwhile MCD. He said that erstwhile MCD has no connection with this fund given to MLAs by Delhi Govt. It is the failure of Delhi Govt. that they failed to utilize their MLAs fund.

He said that while trifurcating MCD, Delhi Government had said that the trifurcation is being done because the authority of the local body rests at distant place from the citizens residing in far-flung areas. If it was true then why the Head Quarter of South Delhi Municipal Corporation is still stationed at the Civic Centre as it was in the erstwhile Corporation.

Not only this, but Delhi Government in its financial memorandum to Union Government affirmed that there would be no additional expenditure from the consolidated fund of Delhi Government. But the trifurcation has lead to additional financial burden of more than 100 crore rupees. This amount would be a loan on the three Corporations and they would have to repay with interest. The three Corporations are also facing the pressure to increase the property tax rates although all the three Corporations have refused to bow to the pressure.

Chandolia appealed to Delhi Government to not make such statements out of frustration seeing their defeat in the forthcoming Legislative Assembly Elections but to fulfil their constitutional and moral responsibilities to bear the additional burden on the three new Corporations.
