Jagannath Rath Yatra begins today

The much awaited festival for odiya community is all set to begin from Thrusday, 21th June. The entire odiya community is busy participating the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath that is scheduled for today at many places nationwide. Celebrated as the major festival of Orissa, the Rath yatra is also a major attraction in the states like Ahmedabad, Gujarat and other parts of the country.

The oldest temple of Lord Jagganath is situated at Puri, in Orissa and considered as one of the Char Dham in India. Lord Jagannath Rath yatra is being celebrated every year fron 4th of June as per the Hindu calaender and goes for next nine days when Lord Jagannath along with his brother Balram and his sister Sudhadra comes out of the sanctum sanctorum of the chief temple, Bada Deula and is moved to Gundicha Temple approximately 3 kms from Bada Deula in a fully decorated three massive wooden chariots driven by a huge number of devotees. The preparations for the Rath Yatra are started one month ago by the devotees to maintain its serenity.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the 135th Rath Yatra. Around 20,000 policemen including homeguards, SRPs and Para-military will be deployed on the entire 14-KM yatra route along with other security arrangements for the security of about 10 Lakhs devotees from around India worshiping lord Jagannath at Puri.

Rath Yatra is also celebrated in the capital city of India, Delhi with full enthusiasm by the devotees by organizing a rath yatra that moves from various places in the city. This year the rath yatra is scheduled to will Chander Nagar, Deep Nagar, Jandhu Chowk, Vrindavan Road, Kailash Cinema Chowk, Dandi Swami Road and Haibowal, before reaching Gundicha temple in Chander Nagar near Jagannath Puram.
