Left Parties to meet today on Prez poll

In a bid to discuss their strategy over upcoming Presidential election, the left parties are likely to meet today. The meet will decide the way, where they have to go; will they support Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader PA Sangma or will wait for congress's nomination for Prez poll or they will decided to promote their own candidates.

The move of meeting over prez poll came a day after when tribal leader from NCP met Communist Party of India (Marxists) (CPM) Chief Prakash Karat.

Earlier, PA Sangma has started his campaign for getting different parties support for next Prez poll. In this regard, he had met AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa, and Biju Janta Dal (BJD) Chief Naveen Patnaik, who have assured Sangma to support him but his own party Chief Sharad Pawar has shown reluctance in supporting him and even criticized him for self promoting for prez poll.

NCP Chief had stated that NCP should wait for Congress Party's move as NCP is the part of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and will decide accord candidate. Moreover, he also said that NCP has not large number of MPs to support him in the Parliament.

Sangma has reportedly apologized to Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi for opposing her claim for Prime Ministerial candidature in 1999 as she is a foreigner-origin lady. Sangma along with Sharad Pawar and Tariq Anwar made a separate party Nationalist Congress Party. Sangma also asked appointment to Sonia which was snubbed by UPA president.

On the other hand, Congress party that has still maintained its suspense over the name of candidate.

Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Tuesday meet UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi where he indicated to support UPA candidate with a condition that the candidate must not be a bureaucrat nor a non-political person.

The term of President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil is about to end in this June.
