Congress debacle in Delhi, wake up call for Sheila

new Delhi, Thu, 19 Apr 2012 NI Wire

For the major debacle of the Congress in he civic body election, the assessment done by Sheila Dikshit may be logical in her own view, but analyst thinks that every thing is not proper for her in coming days. Especially the trifurcation of MCD was the bone of contentions between Sheila and other congress leaders, which can be a tools for her opponents after the poor performance of the party.

The results have nothing to do with the Congress leadership but its impact has affected Sheila's record in the past.

It's right that in the civic election BJP raised the issues of corruption and price hike that was directly related to Congress. But the major factor, which decided a major role during election campaign, was the issues of trifurcation of MCD.

There is no doubt the decision of trifurcation of MCD was the idea of Sheila Dikshit and she had done ignoring many congress leaders.

Although now she is saying that it was done for the better administration for the civic body but no one can ignore the fact that it has pay the cost in election and BJP raised the issues vehemently.

The trifurcation of the humongous civic corporation was Dikshit's brainchild and she got it done despite serious objections by senior party leaders in the state.

Even some congress leaders have accepted that fact that the split of MCD was not liked by people in the capital. We had even gone to the party high command to appraise it that trifurcation will do no good, but we had to fall in line.

The BJP won in 138 of the 272 wards in the three newly created municipal corporations of Delhi while the Congress secured victory in 78 wards. The BJP lost 26 seats as compared to 2007 when it had won 164 seats, and the Congress tally went up from 64 to 78 seats.
