Three Karnataka ministers - Lakshman Savdi, C C Patil and Krishna B Palemar - who were allegedly caught on camera watching porn on a cell phone in the state Assembly have resigned today amid mounting pressure to do so in order to save the party's image.
The trio have submitted their resignation to state Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda who has forwarded it to the Governor for acceptance.
Minister for Cooperation Lakshman Savdi, Woman and Child Development C C Patil Minister were caught on Television allegedly watching a porn clip and a news of rape in which a foreign girl was being molested by four men when they are in the assembly and a serious discussion was going on there.
After being flashed on a Kannada news channel, Savadi convened a press conference and denied all the charged. In his clearing statement he said, he was not watching a porn clip but watching a clip of rave party and reading a news of Iran where four men had molested a girl.
He also named Ports and Environment Minister Krishna B Palemar for providing the clips.
With this 'porn watching' episode, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) who is at present in the power in Karnataka is facing severe criticism across the country. The opposition Congress Party has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Gowda.
“The ministers' resignation is not enough for the "shameless act"; they should be suspended by the Assembly Speaker and should be arrested for "violating the law and the sanctity of the Assembly," said Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily.
The red-faced BJP has tried to calm the opposition and said that the ministers have resigned and an inquiry will be held into this matter.
