Pak political party calls for action against 'militant sanctuaries' following leader's killing

Peshawar , Wed, 26 Dec 2012 ANI

Peshawar, Dec. 26 (ANI): Pakistan's Awami National Party (ANP) has called for dismantling the sanctuaries of insurgents who want to destroy the country.

The Express Tribune quoted ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, as saying that the country should evolve a national consensus on a comprehensive strategy for defeating terrorist outfits.

Khan said this while addressing a high-level consultative meeting of the party, which comes three days after senior ANP politician Bashir Ahmed Bilour was killed in a suicide attack in Peshawar.

Khan said the militants wanted to enforce the obscurantist system of their namesakes from neighbouring Afghanistan.

He further said his party was opposed to US drone strikes in tribal regions and consider them as a breach of Pakistan's sovereignty. He added that his party is also opposed to the existence of sanctuaries for local and foreign terrorists on Pakistani soil.

Khan further said that the ANP supports negotiations with all those who recognise the writ of the state and renounce violence and called for "effective and meaningful action" against those who challenge the state's writ. (ANI)
