Jaipur, Dec 23 (IANS) A man was detained in Rajasthan's Kota city Sunday following the suicide by a 17-year-old girl who was depressed over harassment and stalking by him, police said.
According to police, Puja Mehra, a Class 12 student, killed herself at her house in Mahaveer Nagar neighbourhood in Kota, some 300 km from Jaipur. Her neighbour Kartik Goyal, 20, was detained on a complaint by her father.
"The girl was found hanging from a room's ceiling yesterday (Saturday) night while her parents were out of the house for some work. Her elder brother was at his shop," a police officer told IANS.
The girl's father Satyendra Mehra told police that Goyal had barged into their house Friday and threatened her to accept his friendship.
"The family members had registered a complaint against the Gupta," the officer said.
In a statement to police, Puja earlier said that she was being stalked by Kartik. "He also used to call her on her mobile phone and threaten her," said the officer.
