London, Dec. 22 (ANI): Olympian Luke Campbell topped his gold medal winning performance at London 2012 - by acting as a midwife, when his fiance Lynsey Kraanen went into labour early.
He dialled 999, then delivered son Lincoln on the kitchen floor before paramedics could even arrive.
"I wasn't scared before my Olympic final, but when we realised the baby was coming and we had no midwife or professional help, that was scary," the Sun quoted him as saying.
"Lynsey did incredibly well, she had no pain relief. I've had a few knocks in the ring but this was another level. Luckily everyone's fine," he said.
Kraanen, 26, woke up with stomach pains, and soon realised the baby was coming.
The couple had planned a home birth, so Campbell quickly fetched their birthing pool and mat.
"I realised there was no time to start blowing up the pool or filling it with water.
"I put the mat on the floor and Lynsey got on it and started pushing," he said.
Kraanen had called her parents, who live on the same street in Hull, East Yorkshire, and her dad Charlie helped out.
"The umbilical cord got stuck round Lincoln's neck. Charlie managed to free it and I guided Lincoln out," Campbell said.
"When I heard him cry it was a huge relief, I knew he was OK.
"I fetched towels and we wrapped him up, then the ambulance arrived," he said.
Campbell, who won gold in the bantamweight final at the London Games, missed the birth of eldest son Leo, 2, because he was away training. And he joked: "I think I'd rather miss the next one, too." (ANI)
