Pahalgam (Kashmir Valley), Dec. 9 (ANI): The army has installed modern heating equipment in a goodwill school in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, to create a comfortable environment for students to prepare for higher secondary and competitive exams during the winter.

Secretary of Army Good Will School, Pahalgam, Colonel D.K. Malik, said that classrooms and hostels are fitted with heating equipments and food warmers are being provided in cook houses to keep the food warm.

"It was important for us to make the students stay in school and provide them quality education in the coming two-three months, so that they score well in the higher secondary exams and all the other competitive exams and make the school proud. So, we have installed hot air blowers, which keep the classrooms warm. They are also installed in the hostels and cook houses. We have also arranged food warmers in the cook house, so that the food remains warm," said Colonel Malik.

Students said qualified teachers are being provided to them to complete there pending syllabus and they hope of getting good results in the exams.

"They are taking the pains for us to make us stay in the school during winters. The condition here in Pahalgam is very chilly in the winters. But inspite of that they are giving us all the facilities like heaters, hot water and whatever we need in the winters is being provided to us. At the same time, teachers are available and we are having classes without any disturbance. With this we expect that we will have great results in higher secondary exams," said a student, Danish Farooq.

Every year, the winters in Jammu and Kashmir forces the state government to shut down schools for winter vacation ahead of schedule, as the state is covered with fog and mist and the temperature dips to zero degree Celsius.

Places on higher attitudes, including Jammu and Kashmir witness extreme winters.

Heavy snowfall throughout the season blocks highways and major routes to Srinagar as well. (ANI)
