New museums on government list to push archiving

New Delhi, Dec 5 (IANS) The culture ministry has put archiving of heritage high on its list of priorities by sanctioning five new museums, the Lok Sabha was informed Wednesday.

The new museums will be located at Sironj and Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, Rishikesh in Uttranchal and Baran and Jaipur in Rajasthan, Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch said in a written reply during question hour.

She said the new museums have been approved under the ministry's 'Setting Up, Promotion and Stregthening of Regional and Local Museums scheme.

The grants to the museums are in two categories: Rs.6 crore for 'renowned museums with exquisite collections' and 'Rs.3 crore for other museums'.
