London, Dec 4(ANI): A new study has revealed that footballer players with not so charming looks are better performers on the pitch as compared to handsome players.
A study of players in Germany's Bundesliga put France star Franck Ribery, who is severely scarred from a childhood car accident, top of the ugly ratings.
The 29-year-old winger also led the performance ratings, which were based on goals, successful passes and clean tackles.
The three men who were voted the most handsome, Markus Daun, Adam Bodzek, and Markus Neumayr were all relegated with their teams.
The ugly guys consistently came out top in the research by the University of Dusseldorf.
Aces from the past such as Brazil's Ronaldo and ex-England maestro Peter Beardsley, also won more praise for their feet than their faces, but the ladies loved stars such as Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres, yet flopped on the field.
"Players who look good don't need to work so much to be seen in a positive light. They think: 'I look good, so I don't need to try hard.'" the Daily Star quoted Prof Ulrich Rosar
"Ribery would not have to strive so much if he looked better," he added. (ANI)
