BJP to raise demolition of Karachi's pre-partition era temple in Parliament

new delhi, Mon, 03 Dec 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Dec 3 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday termed as extremely unfortunate the demolition of a century-old temple in Karachi's Soldier Bazaar, and said that it would raise this issue in the Parliament for it is a violation of human rights and a religious persecution, which is going in Pakistan.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said 'the attack on the temple is a very unfortunate news from Pakistan'.

"But as we know in Pakistan there is religious persecution and Hindus are fleeing Pakistan. We will definitely raise this issue because this is violation of the rights of minorities and a religious persecution, which is going in Pakistan. And this is a very serious trend. So, we will take up the matter in Parliament," he added.

A pre-Partition temple was demolished in Karachi's Soldier Bazaar area earlier on Saturday by a builder even as the Sindh High Court was hearing a petition seeking a stay on the demolition.

Apart from razing down the pre-partition Shri Rama Pir Mandir, the private builder also demolished three or four houses located next to it. As a result, nearly 40 people became homeless, The Express Tribune reports.

According to reports, members of the Hindu community staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club earlier on Sunday following the demolition. (ANI)
