Raj Thackeray, family face online attack

Maharashtra,Crime/Disaster/Accident,Politics, Sat, 01 Dec 2012 IANS

Mumbai, Dec 1 (IANS) For the first time, an 'unknown' enemy has attacked Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and his children, by creating fake online accounts on social networking websites, forcing the party to seek police help.

MNS vice-president Vageesh Saraswat Saturday said the party lodged an official complaint with the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell Friday night, demanding a probe into the incident.

Saraswat said that some MNS activists brought to the notice of the party leaders that suspicious Facebook and Twitter accounts in the names of Raj Thackeray, his son Amit and daughter Urvashi were detected.

"Very objectionable and deplorable content is being created and circulated about icons like Babasaheb Ambedkar through these fake accounts. We decided to immediately inform the police and seek their help in probing who is behind this mischief," Saraswat told IANS.

The development follows another fake Facebook account created in the name of M.H. Nadi Sarwar Khan, the editor of fortnightly magazine 'Palghar Mirror'.

Apprehending trouble, as there was objectionable content on the late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, Khan Friday lodged a police complaint in Palghar town of Thane district, about 100 km from here.

Two Palghar girls -- Shaheen Dadha and Reenu Srinivasan -- were arrested in Maharashtra for a Facebook post questioning Mumbai's shutdown following Bal Thackeray's death last month.

In another case, meat shop assistant Sunil Vishwakarma was questioned for allegedly posting on Facebook objectionable matter against MNS chief Raj Thackeray. Later, his Facebook account was found to be fake.
