London Mayor calls for greater Indian investment in United Kingdom

Mumbai, Nov 30 (ANI): As the French Government presses steel giant ArcelorMittal to avert the closure of two blast furnaces in north-eastern France, London Mayor Boris Johnson has called for greater Indian investment in the United Kingdom.

The mayor used the opportunity on Thursday evening to attract business to London at the heels of a French cabinet member saying on Monday that steel giant ArcelorMittal was no longer welcome due to years of broken promises.

"I saw what the French government had to say about ArcelorMittal and my only thought is this, in tough economic times everybody in the world has a choice, you can either close your markets, become more nationalistic, become more narrow in your outlook or you can be more open and you can allow in wealth creators, who will drive growth for everybody and who basically expand the economy," said Johnson.

Indian-born businessman Lakshmi Mittal, who controls ArcelorMittal and ranks 21st amongst Forbes list of the world's richest people, employs some 20,000 people in France.

The mayor added that London welcomed investment from Bollywood filmmakers.

"My message to Indian investors, who are coming to London is, it's a great place to live in, invest in; it's the worlds financial capital, business capital. We are talking about the Bollywood movies, we make more Bollywood movies in London, than any other city outside India. So, we welcome Mr. Mittal, we welcome talents from India to London," he told journalists in Mumbai, where he met with Bollywood film producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vikram Bhatt.

"Large numbers of Bollywood films are made in London, they are filmed in London and it's a great thing for our city but we are also very keen to make life easy for Indian film producers to come to London, so we are offering special tax breaks and lots of help in clearing the roads and making things simple," said Johnson.

Sajid Nadiadwala also announced that his two ensuing projects, 'Kick' and 'Housefull 3' would be shot in London.

London reguarly features in Bollywood films. Bollywood mogul Yash Chopra filmed his last directorial venture extensively in London. (ANI)
