12 injured in firing on political gathering in Sindh, southern Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov. 30 (Xinhua-ANI): At least 12 people were injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on a political gathering in Sanghar, a small town in central Sindh province in southern Pakistan on Friday, reported local media Dunya.

According to local media reports, the incident took place at about noon's time when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-F (PML-F) Pir Pagara Gulam Muhamad Anar as well as the people gathering around his vehicle.

People were gathering there to protest against a local government body ordinance recently passed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led provincial assembly, said local media.

The firing broke out when the protesters forced people to close the shops nearby the rally, local TV channel Ajj quoted eyewitnesses as saying.

The PML-F leader remained safe in the attack, but his son was reportedly injured. Conditions of the injured are not known at this point.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

PML-F is a Sindh-based political party which, in the 2008 general elections, won five seats in the National Assembly, the lower house of the parliament in the country, eight seats in the Sindh provincial assembly and three seats in Punjab provincial assembly. (Xinhua-ANI)
