New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) Against the backdrop of the dangers of proliferation and nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists, India will host a two-day workshop on nuclear security starting Friday.
Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, sherpa (special representative) for the Nuclear Security Summit, will inaugurate the workshop on building new synergies on nuclear security.
The workshop is being organized by India in cooperation with the UN Office of Disarmament Affairs.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced India's initiative to host this workshop during the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul in March this year.
The workshop, which coincides with India's presidency of the UN Security Council this month, will be attended by all countries represented on the UNSC as well as new incoming members, the UN, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and representatives of the Committee established under UNSC Resolution 1540.
