Chennai, Nov. 28 (ANI): Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday called on state governments to approach the central government for clean funds and utilize such money for improving power transmission and power collection from renewable sources.
Interacting with reporters here about government renewable energy initiatives, he emphasized that in the field of wind energy, India is number five in the world and added that the government is paying proper attention to this sector to further increase its potential.
"We have a plan of 3,000 MW per year. Generation based incentives has to be given, so that industry can further grow and can be motivated in producing more power. We are also thinking that the time has come that we should think of going into the sea to generate power from there also," he said. "
"My recommendations to the state governments are very straight that they need to improve their transmission system, for which they must approach to the centre for the clean fund we have, so that we can give them the assistance and see that the money is being used for improving power transmission and power collection," he added.
Earlier this week, Gireesh B Pardhan, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had said that the country would take its new and renewable capacities to 54,000 MW by 2017. Currently, it is around 27,000 MW. (ANI)
