New Delhi,Business/Economy, Tue, 27 Nov 2012 IANS

New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS) Bahrain?based Gulf Air is planning to fly in to three more Indian cities ? Pune, Ahmedabad and Amritsar.

"In the short term, we plan to focus on our current operations in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kochi. However, in the medium term we plan to start operations to Pune, Ahmedabad and Amritsar," Karim Makhlouf, chief commercial officer, Gulf Air, said Tuesday.

Makhlouf was speaking at the launch of operations to India on Airbus A?321s, which offers fully?flat bed in the business class.

The airline's plans to start new routes may get a boost as Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh recently directed the ministry to hold fresh bilateral air service agreement negotiations with countries based in Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Asked whether the airline was interested in picking up stake in any domestic airlines, Makhlouf said the airline has no such plans currently.

The airline earns about eight percent of its total revenue from India by offering 16,600 seats a week between Bahrain and the four Indian cities.
