New Delhi, Nov. 27 (ANI): The outgoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, Amar Pratap Singh on Tuesday said that the agency conducts investigations in totally free and fair manner without fear and favour as per the procedures of the law.

Amar Pratap Singh, while addressing a press conference just before three days of his retirement, said that the procedure to appoint the CBI director through a collegium comprising the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha was first muted by the CBI itself and expressed his happiness that the Rajya Sabha Select Committee has endorsed the same views.

However, he emphasized that the preset selection procedure mandated by the Supreme Court is absolutely fair and transparent.

"With a lot of hard work and efforts we were able to play pro-active role and successfully convinced all the political parties and members of the civil society that the Bureau must remain in the centre in of the anti-corruption mechanism, and should not be diluted in any manner. We are happy the Select Committee has endorsed our views," said Singh.

"We have by and large tried to keep our commitments in the two years my tenure marked by complex, specialized, high profile investigation to probe corruption and crime. The media ensured that the CBI was kept in the public eye. We have attempted to be as transparent and open as possible in our functioning," he added.

Amar Pratap Singh took charge of the office in 2010, when the speculation about the functioning of the agency was at an all time high in the backdrop of pending high profile cases like 2G, Adarsh scam, CWG and Arushi murder case.

Ranjit Sinha will take over as the new CBI Director as Amar Pratap Singh is retiring on November 30. (ANI)
