Dr. Walia directed to establish transparency in disbursement of pensions

New Delhi, Tue, 27 Nov 2012 NI Wire

Delhi Health Minister Dr. A.K. Walia has said the Director, Local Bodies, Govt. of NCT of Delhi to instruct the Corporations to release the arrears of pensioners, at least, up to the end of last financial year from the headquarters of the respective local bodies. This would put an end to hardship and harassment to beneficiaries.

Dr. Walia has also observed that the system of approaching the area councilor in person by beneficiaries for getting the pension each time is cumbersome. He has suggested that all types of financial assistance in the form of pension may be released through banking institutions in an electronic form to enable the beneficiaries to get their pension on time without visiting councilor again and again for getting their pension released.

This would go a long way in establishing transparency and efficiency in disbursement of social security like pension. The Minister has also asked the Director, Local Bodies to get this issue resolved at the earliest in order to provide desired relief to the beneficiaries.

Dr. Walia has also further questioned the ongoing practice in the Local Bodies for booking of MCD Community Halls and Parks with a recommendatory letter / NOC from the Ward Councilor. This has been made mandatory.

Dr. Walia stated that the city is loosing its sheen due to the gross violation of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Properties Act, 2007. The Corporations have been selective in taking action against pasting the political posters by a particular party. Further, there is no restriction on putting up of sign boards by the public representatives in the local bodies.
