Bhopal, Nov.23 (ANI): Hundreds of tribals and farmers hit the streets of Bhopal on Friday to protest against the insensitive policies of the Madhya Pradesh Government.

The protest took place under the banner of the Jan Sanghrash Morcha.

They accused the state administration of being insensitive to the problems faced by the people.

Many tribals wore handcuffs as mark of protest.

Holding banners, they raised anti-government slogans and denounced the selling of their lands and forests to private companies.

Well-known social activist of Jagrit Adivasi Dalit Sangathan, a forum dedicated to welfare of tribal communities, Madhuri expressed her ire at the apathy of the concerned officials.

"After a series of investors meet and after inviting private capital into the state, the Madhya Pradesh government is selling the land and forests of our people to private companies and this is not development. There is no development at the end of it. This is just the wholesale loot of natural resources. Livelihoods are being destroyed by the thousands. More than two and half hectares of land have been handed over. This is not development. What development is this? This is loot," said Madhuri.

The national vice president of the Samajwadi Jan Parishad, Sunil, said the Madhya Pradesh Government has become the wheeler-dealer for the domestic and international corporate entities.

"Today through Madhya Pradesh Jan Sanghrash Morcha (People's Struggle Movement), an awareness rally has been taken out. In the last few months several incidents took place in the state with an aim to suppress the voice of the people. The government is responding to the demand of the people by putting them behind bars. The people of the state will not tolerate this. We have taken out this rally for this reason. We believe that the Madhya Pradesh government and people within it have become the middleman for the domestic and international companies," said Sunil.

The tribals charged the government of putting them behind the bars instead of addressing their grievances. (ANI)
