New Delhi,Immigration/Law/Rights,Defence/Security, Tue, 20 Nov 2012 IANS

New Delhi, Nov 20 (IANS) Aggrieved over non?inclusion of his name among the three officers shortlisted for being considered as the next CBI director, incumbent Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) here, sources said Tuesday.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director A.P. Singh's tenure ends Nov 30 and list of top officials for the post has been prepared by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

As the name of 1976 batch IPS officer Neeraj Kumar is not in the list prepared by CVC, he has approached the tribunal questioning the procedure for picking the three officers and excluding his name, added sources.

The CAT is likely to hear the matter later this week, they said.

Kumar is credited with cracking the case relating to the assassination of then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, solving of American Centre shootout case of 2002 which led to extradition of Aftab Ansari from gulf, the Bombay blast and the UTI scam cases.

The CVC?headed selection committee has cleared a panel of three senior IPS officials including Indo?Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force Director General Ranjit Sinha (a 1974?batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre), Director General of National Investigation Agency S.C. Sinha and former Uttar Pradesh director general of police Atul.

Their names have been put before the appointment committee of cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the sources said.

The committee comprises home secretary, personnel secretary, incumbent CBI director and two vigilance commissioners.
