Sydney, Nov 20(ANI): Former Australia off spinner Ashley Mallet has backed Nathan Lyon to become a world class player in future, and added the 25-year old can also become Oz Test team's premier spin bowler in coming years.
Mallett is the doyen of Australian off-spin with 132 wickets at 29.8 from 38 Tests and he thinks Lyon will finish among elite company.
Lyon will become the youngest Australian off-spinner to take 50 wickets if he can snare four Proteas scalps in Adelaide this week, and Mallet believes it's the start of something very special.
"I think Nathan has the potential to be world class," News.com.au quoted Mallet, as saying.
"I thought he was the best bowler after tea on the first day in Brisbane. In the second innings South Africa targeted him because they were worried about him," he added.
"I think he has done extremely well for a bloke who came off the curating bench. He will just get better as long as he works hard," he said. (ANI)
