Supreme Court notice will not affect IMG decision on Coalgate: Jaiswal

Kanpur , Mon, 19 Nov 2012 ANI

Kanpur, Nov. 19 (ANI): Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Monday said the Supreme Court's notice to the Centre regarding a SIT probe into coal block allocations will not affect the decisions taken by the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG).

"We will answer to the Supreme Court's notice, but IMG will keep taking decision on the fate of the blocks in questions," said Jaiswal

However, he said he has not gone through the court's notice as yet as his office will follow the IMG's recommendations.

Eerlier today, the apex court had issued notice to the central government and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after a Public Interest litigation (PIL) filed in connection with the coal blocks allocations controversy.

The PIL filed by an NGO and some bureaucrats, demands a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the allegations of unfairness and arbitrariness in the allocation of 194 coal blocks.

However, the court has refused to stay the government's decision by which coal blocks were allocated to the various public and private sector units and directed to tag this petition with other petitions pending on same issue.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) on coal is likely to meet today to take a decision on 14 coal blocks allocated to public sector units (PSUs). (ANI)
