De Villiers says Oz 'dreaming' if they believe 'futile' sledging tactics would daunt them

Sydney, Nov 19(ANI): South Africa vice-captain AB de Villiers has ridiculed Australian players' sledging tactics, saying Michael Clarke's men would be dreaming if they think they can dampen them by their constant verbal assault.

De Villiers said sledging didn't work in 2008 and it won't work this time also, as the war of words escalates with firebrand James Pattinson and a resurgent Australia.

Pattinson claimed opener Graeme Smith twice cheaply and fired a series of barbs at the South African skipper in Brisbane.

Peter Siddle claimed Hashim Amla in both digs and the pace duo believe they've got under the skin of the Proteas and established an edge.

"Tell 'em they're dreaming," News.com.au quoted De Villiers, as saying as a riposte to Australian bowlers' claim ahead of the Adelaide Test.

"They thought so in 2008 and it didn't really happen that way, so hopefully we can prove them wrong again," he added.

"There is always a bit of chat around, obviously two very good teams who want to win and do whatever you can to get a few wickets. It is a matter of playing the big moments better and, whatever you can do to get an edge, you will go through with it," he said. (ANI)
