Samana (Odisha), Nov.18 (ANI): A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered by security forces from a Maoist camp in Samana village in Odisha.
A joint combing operation was carried out by the Border security force and Special Operation Group following a tip off about the presence of armed Maoists in the region.
However, the rebels took the advantage of thick forests and darkness and succeeded in fleeing from the camp.
"The police party noticed the presence of Maoists in the area and asked them to surrender. Instead, Maoists started running away and managed to escape by taking advantage of darkness and the terrain. A police party chased them but could not catch them. They did not fire at them to avoid possible collateral damage," said Rastrajyoti Sahu, a police officer.
The security personnel recovered nearly 130 kg explosives, Naxal uniforms and Naxal literature from the camp.
"We have seized these arms. IDEAL brand Gelatin sticks 129 packets of 125 gram size, septic fuse- 6 meters, codex wire 15 meters, flexible wire 20 meters, Tiffin bombs, detonators, one number caliber made in china, mobile charger one number," Sahu added.
According to the police, Maoist commanders and other hardcore militia were present and were planning to attack the camps of security personnel.
Maoist cadres have killed police personnel, political workers and have also targeted government buildings and railway tracks. (ANI)
