PCB mulling over compensating Big Bash League pullouts

Islamabad, Sat, 17 Nov 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Nov 17(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is contemplating over plans to pay damages to Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal and Umar Akmal after the trio was stopped from taking part in the Big Bash League (BBL) despite an earlier green signal to sign contracts with the league.

In a late u-turn, the PCB told the players to appear in the domestic Twenty20 event that is scheduled to start from December 2 and will also help the selectors judge form and fitness ahead of naming squads for the tour of India.

"It's a big financial loss for the players," the Express tribune quoted a source close to the players, as saying.

"The players have rightly followed the board's orders but they want something in return as they feel it is their right. The players had received permission to sign BBL contracts now it's the board's duty to pay them," the source added.

Meanwhile, a PCB official confirmed that the board was mulling over the option of compensating the players.

"The board is also discussing plans to compensate top cricketers for skipping leagues on regular basis in order to save them from burn-out and over exposure," the official said. (ANI)
