Legend Richards says 'would have been happy to play shots some youngsters play today'

Sydney, Nov 17(ANI): Legendary West Indies batsman Viv Richards has said he would have been happy to play some of the innovative shots which young players of today's generation play.

The explosive Caribbean star retired more than two decades ago, long before the popular Twenty20 was invented, but even he seemed to be wondering what might have been as he returned to the MCG on Friday.

"I would have been happy to play the shots some of these young guys do today," News.com.au quoted Richards, as saying.

When Richards was asked whether he might consider picking up a bat again if a plague of injuries struck the Melbourne Stars, who he has agreed to mentor when the Big Bash League begins its second season next month, his answer might have been part quip and part wishful thinking.

"I doubt it. I'm a little long in the tooth for that," Richards said.

"But don't look at my age. I've never been a quitter. So you never know," he added.

Richards said he was excited to be back at the scene of the crime where he had many memories of both success and failure, but there wasn't much of the latter as he averaged better than 50 in Test and one-day cricket at the MCG stadium. (ANI)
